A local court in Pennsylvania ruled that new sex offender registration laws cannot be applied retroactively to those who accepted a plea deal. The state fought that decision all the way to the Supreme Court and lost. PA’s Supreme Court has demonstrated a willingness to protect defendants who take plea deals and demonstrated that deals can extend beyond just sentencing.
