Packingham v. North Carolina was not the only case brought before the Supreme Court by a sex offender yesterday. Juan Esquivel-Quitana was convicted of a sex crime for having sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend when he was 20 in California. He served his jail sentence without issue. When he moved to Michigan he was suddenly faced with deportation to Mexcio, despite having already been punished in a different state and having a green card. Esquivel-Quitana’s appeals have taken him all the way to the Supreme Court.
